PALM DESERT - It seemed actor-comedian Ray Romano was destined to one day participate in the celebrity portion of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
Golf always played a part in his CBS hit comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond." He even teamed up with friend and fellow actor Kevin James in an HBO production that featured their attempt to make the cut in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

HOPE CLASSIC NOTEBOOK

Romano played the Hope for the first time, albeit on Friday and Saturday only. He played with pro Justin Leonard along with comedian Anthony Anderson during the pro-am portion that concluded Saturday.

His highlight of the day featured a 30-foot putt to save par on the par-5, 560-yard No. 14 at Classic Club that drew raves from the gallery.

"They got that on the telecast?" he said. "Cool."

Romano said he tries to play about once a week, but mostly plays a "scattered" schedule.

He will return to Pebble Beach next month to attempt another shot at making the cut. "Making the Cut: The Road to Pebble Beach" was made in 2005 where he missed the cut. He said last year's effort "wasn't even close."

"We'll go back in a few weeks and see if we can get it done," he said.
